Consciousness is infectious. A lot of what you think and believe come from the thoughts of others and in truth, very few people think deeply for themselves. This is not all bad of course as you must learn new things from the experience and knowledge of those who teach you and, whatever the missions in your life are, you must gain knowledge.
There is obviously a difference between factual information and knowledge, and opinion, and most people will have their opinions affected by those around them and will therefore participate in that particular consciousness. Whatever your opinions about any subject you will be attracted to others who share the same, and mostly feel degrees of indifference or even hostility to those who don’t. This is how factions are formed and how people are influenced both in small numbers and large, because they do not question beliefs that are being presented to them and, even if they do, don’t know what to do with their own disagreement.
There is much hostility and turbulence in your world and the majority of people do not “agree” with much of what is taking place but feel helpless to prevent it. Mostly all people can do is have an opinion and condemn what they regard as bad actions and align with others who feel the same. This is normal human behaviour; you heard your parents do the same and they learned from their own parents and guardians thus it is a dynamic that gets passed down, unquestioned, from generation to generation.
You must have common agreements in any society for that society to function and over recent years you have watched as nearly all societal norms have been challenged, many of which have completely disintegrated. You agree or disagree with all of this according to which faction you belong to, and stay caught up in whichever camp you belong to. It matters not whether your beliefs are noble or otherwise, you are still caught up in them.
Belief, opinion, judgement and so forth are all part of human ego which is the foundation stone of linear thinking and is in fact necessary for survival as long as you hold the view that you are a separate entity, which at one level is true. At a deeper level it is not as every living being is part of the Oneness of all creation, but the survival instinct and therefore ego is extremely strong in most humans and does not let go easily.
There have always been those who have desired to transcend the clutches of the ego and find a more illuminated way to live and indeed there have always been people who were born to do this. Whether others listened to their wisdom or not was a matter of choice, but today we see that choice diminishing almost daily.
There is a great sickness of consciousness amongst many, for whom belief and opinion have ceased to be a salve and a genuine fear/desire axis lies at the heart of what they think. There is only one way to overcome the terror and disturbence that exists in your world and that is to withdraw from the addiction of your own linear thinking. Your world appears to be at war with itself in many respects but if you are willing to make peace with yourself it will be easier to make peace with the external world.
You do not know the real source of any conflict even though you may understand the political significance, whether it be a personal matter or not. Something happens and a judgement arises – good or bad it is still a judgement. That judgement affects all your other judgements and infiltrates your consciousness, taking you into your mind and away from your Self. Your true Self is the timeless, whole and eternal part of your beingness. As has been often said, you can take a cup of water from the ocean and it will appear separate, but it is still the ocean, and so it is with all life. What makes it separate is its consciousness.
It is the nature of soul to long to experience its own Self and bring to an end the painful sense of separation that comes with human life but for as long as you are enslaved to the addiction of mind it is difficult, or indeed impossible to do so. You need your mind to operate in the functions of your life but being willing to withdraw from the constant stream of mental chatter that dominates you is the starting point of freedom.
As we have so often said, you cannot just change your mind by using your will. Being aware of what is going on in your mind is the starting point and taking an observer position is the way to do this. You are the observer of your life and more you practise taking this position the more you will see that life is but a dream. The less attached you become to your judgements, thoughts of self and worldly desires, the more you realise the connection you already have to the deep strata of life which underpins all life and ultimately empowers everything. In this consciousness you see the power at your disposal but it is not a power to dominate and control, it is the power which allows you to rest, unburdened by mental corruption, in the constant love of intelligent and creative flow.
Consciousness is infectious and the only way to move beyond the chaotic thinking that bombards you daily is to withdraw your enslavement to it. The more that individuals practise this, in whichever way they choose, the more this consciousness pervades, the more whole people feel and the less conflict dominates. Putting aside even a short amount of time to sit quietly and experience your breathing opens the inner portals to a greater understanding and a deeper experience of your own wealth and love. Experiencing your own awareness, your own deep Self, is the most satisfying thing you can know. Do this often.
