Everything that takes place in human life is cyclical and the old saying that “things come to pass and not to stay” is always appropriate. It is often difficult for our human friends to understand and work with the nature of cycles as human thinking has become almost devoid of the understanding of patience, or the wisdom it has to offer.
The increasingly fast-paced world you live in deeply affects the level of collective thought, which affects everyone, to the point that many people don’t even know what or who they are and are mostly disconnected from Source, rarely taking the time to reflect and appreciate, even if they knew how. This is disturbing to us for it is not the purpose of your life to exhaust your mind and body and live in a state of permanent stress and fear. The way your world has evolved, although there are improvements, is generally to the detriment of most people. It is those who are willing to address the nature of mind who find a place of freedom beyond it.
A quiet mind leads to a creative and joyful heart. Thought arises and almost immediately it is followed by emotion and you can observe this yourself by becoming a witness to your own thinking. A fearful thought comes to mind and you become fearful, an optimistic thought arises and you have a sense of hopefulness, and so on. Most people think in a circular fashion, the same thoughts coming back and back again, with no resolution. You do not learn in your early years to develop mental peace as children already have their minds crowded with educational demands and the impact upon them from their family situation. In today’s world few children know the benefits of quietude and observation yet it is something all humans need, to regenerate not just their physical energy but also the emotional, mental and spiritual balance.
Being patient when those around you are not takes awareness and self-discipline. All spiritual endeavour demands these virtues which, when practised, are rewarded in myriad ways. It takes no effort to move from an emotionally entangled subjective position to one of observer. All that is needed is the willingness to do it. It’s a question of catching the thought or pattern of thoughts in the moment and seeing that you have a choice. Not a choice to judge the experience differently and definitely not a choice to suppress your thoughts and feelings or to change them, but a choice simply to be a witness to what is going on within you. Just to see it and have compassion for yourself in that moment. You are never asked to undertake some sort of mental and psychological gymnastics in order to straighten out your thinking! This is neither possible nor desirable for you have little or no control over your thoughts when they are inflamed with emotion.
Patience requires the willingness to be present. Few people, if any, are able to live completely in the Present moment as the nature of human life automatically brings you into the past or the future even if only to make plans or recall events for a specific reason. Impatience is borne of desire, the desire to accomplish some aspect of life you have set upon or the desire to get away from an unpleasant experience. It is always rooted in the belief that when whatever is wanted is accomplished, happiness and relief will follow. How often do you say “I can’t wait for……”. Again, become the observer of that thought and it will lose its grip on you.
As living humans you are the inheritors of what we can best describe as poor quality mental training, not just over decades but actual millennia. The world you share is as it is because humans have made it that way and this collective historical thinking is something that enveloped you as soon as you were born, unless you were born to parents who had mastered their own ability to live in a state of loving awareness beyond the narrow band of visible light. Beyond this plane, which refers to the physical world, lies the limitless realm of infinite possibility which is vibrant and alive and available to you at any time you choose.
All humans have situations around them that require their attention and care, but the more readily you step away from the mental complexities they lead to the more easily you enter a place of genuine peace, for it is here that you feel the hand of God, or Source, and can receive the guidance you need. That guidance will invite you to be Present and any instructions for action will come to you. Who you truly are can never die and upon cessation of your current lifetime you will retain the individuality of your deep Self and return to your true home. It is not desirable for you to live your life in a state of constant stress. Patience has a way of dissolving that stress simply because Presence is so powerful. Real patience is Presence, living fully in the present moment and savoring the richness it has to offer. If you can practise this, even just occasionally, it will do nothing except help you.
That you should struggle with this is normal but the more you pay attention the easier it becomes. Beyond the material plane there is no judgement, only love, and it is you who judges yourself. Slip into that space of no-judgement and you will experience peace.
Those who elect for human life are brave indeed and loved beyond measure. Have courage, and let unwanted and unhelpful thinking diminish while you stand aside and watch. Real freedom comes from becoming free of the traps of the mind and the more you surrender attachment to thought the greater will be the experience of freedom. With that comes immense joy, which is all we wish for you.
