Much has been said over the years about thinking positively. We need to take a step back from this and look at what this really means, because it is difficult, if not impossible, to think positively when you do not feel positive.

Much of your daily life is created by the way you think as thoughts have energy and create reactions. Usually a thought forms itself and an emotion arises to accompany it and it is this combination that creates an energy field, for good or bad. It is why we have so often advised that, in times of stressful thinking, it is better to take a step back and be the observer of those thoughts as this diminishes the power they have over you. A strong thought accompanied by emotion will hold sway over you and left unexamined the next step is to automatically believe what you think and this will shape your actions.

If thought is creative and true to yourself, you will experience positive emotions which result in right action and creative demonstration but if it is fear or stress filled it will constrict your expression and unchecked will lead to other painful thoughts and feelings. So the cycle of imbalance runs until you can see it. Do not underestimate the power of thought and the hold it has over your daily experience.

There may be a number of different matters that occupy your mind at any given time. Many of them may involve things you have to address or accomplish, or situations that feel awkward or cause worry, but if there is one matter which does not feel difficult to you or is something you anticipate with easy feelings, concentrate on that. If there is one thing you feel good about bring your focus to that one thing, as in doing this it will lift your heart and diminish the discomfort you feel about the other things.

Strong thoughts generate a powerful energy and are infectious. If you concentrate on a negative thought or belief it will affect the way you think about everything else. If a thought or anticipation lifts you your heart will open and the courage that comes will carry through to the other thoughts you have and brighten the nature of your personal field. It is a question of focus. You can’t force thought or feeling but you can do much to change the way it affects you.

Thoughts are personal and while many might share your belief about a particular subject, your belief is still your own and it is within your own power to change it if that thought diminishes your wellbeing in any way. It is useful to note that when one person takes a wider and less limiting approach to a particular matter, others will follow. As we have said, thought is infectious and what is termed circular thinking results in circular actions which is nothing less than a form of imprisonment.

Your thoughts start with you and most people have, somewhere within them, a negative thought or feeling about themselves, most of which comes from early life experiences. Unexamined, these thoughts often end up projected onto other people or situations which cause conflict and further difficulty and continue the pattern. As individuals learn to retrieve and examine these experiences the opportunity comes to surrender them and become free of their painful and limiting repercussions. This is what freedom is – the absence of limiting belief and the fullness of living in the present moment with quiet joy in the heart.

Negative self belief is deeply damaging to happiness and is mostly a lie. Source does not create you and give you life for you to feel bad. You were born in innocence and your nature is still innocent, as your deep nature is love. Difficult thinking is acquired. It is never gifted. If you experience a negative judgement about yourself, take a moment to look at it and give it away. It came because of a bad habit, that’s all.

Surrender is not easy for everyone and the best thing to do is to ask for help because the unseen world is teeming with miraculous ways to help you. There are all sorts of powers and presences that protect you and serve you, if only you would call for this help. You can prove this for yourself if you reflect back on the miracles that have occurred in your life, when you have inwardly asked for help and suddenly find that a problem has been solved. Pay attention to your miracles, whether they be great or small, for miracles build on themselves. All that’s needed is an honest request and an open heart.

Because of the way your world has been shaped over so many years, there is a tendency to rely on the mind rather than the heart and overthinking is a common problem. The human mind is designed to be the servant of the heart, to execute practical application for the inspirations that arise in the heart and to respond to the demands of your world. You need your mind to support your life but without input from the guidance of the heart (intuition) it will just spin. Freedom comes when there is no thought apart from the functions the mind is required to do. When there is no thought, or thought is quiet and easy, internal peace prevails. When the heart is having trouble the mind will inevitably step in and dominate the issue. This is where you lose the feeling of connection with yourself.

The more able you are to return to the heart at times of difficulty or contention, the easier it becomes for the mind to settle. Right action comes from knowledge and right guidance, much of which stems from your own intuition. It is always easier to connect with these aspects of yourself when the mind is calm.

Mental reflexes are very strong, and making a point of pausing for a few moments will allow the heart to open and guidance to arise. This dispels fear and dissipates reactive emotions.

Think well of yourself.
