The connection between mind and body in the human form is extremely close and you know this by watching how your body reacts to your thoughts. Suddenly having a problem or situation presented to you which in the moment feels overwhelming will have an effect on your body and you’ll use terms such as “feeling knocked sideways”, or being “dumbstruck”, which is a literal way of describing how you feel in your body.
Thoughts are things and at an energy level will have an effect on the body. Many illnesses are caused by repeated stress thoughts, and many illnesses are overcome when this realization comes to you and with full awareness you are able to release the transmission of energy from mind to body so that you are not physically affected.
Happy and uplifting thoughts will often give you a burst of energy and a sense of aliveness, and while your scientists will describe this in terms of physiological activity of one sort or another, it is still an energetic effect at an unseen level. Illness has many causes and we do not need to discuss these. Our intention is to help you become aware of how you are feeling in the body when you are occupied with a certain pattern of thought. The body will always express what is happening in the mind, even if it is only a change in facial expression.
The key to understanding this is the willingness to hold awareness. For as long as you inhabit human form you will be subject to fluctuations in mood and emotion to a greater or lesser degree, and holding awareness of how your body is reacting gives you the ability to either change the current thought patterns or to embrace them with compassion and acceptance. If it is the latter the mood will automatically lift because ultimately love is always the healer.
It is the position of observation that gives you freedom from the effects of circumstance. What cannot be altered must be accepted at the physical level and the simple awareness that you may struggle to accept will take the sting out of the issue. The act of witnessing this in itself brings a degree of freedom from the stress the situation has induced. You do not have to like or agree with the situation, but being aware of your own reactions and literally watching them, allows a step sideways from it which in turn allows energy to flow.
Fighting the body and arguing with the mind creates further stress. There is a great need to become still in these moments and allow all thought to be suspended. While human life can feel like a struggle for many, the cessation of thought will always bring peace. As we have said so often, the thinking mind can behave like a tyrant and engaging in warfare with its domination will not help. It is always simpler, easier and more gentle to shift your focus away from the issue at hand to your mental and physical observation of its effects.
The quieter the mind the easier it is to allow the body to retain equilibrium and for the intuition to flow. You may not know the solution at that moment, but with a quiet mind and an open heart you will open the way for solutions to appear, without causing undue stress within the physical body. You have only to reflect back on the many problems in your life to see that, in the end, everything works out. Problems form part of the tapestry of your life and it lies within your own power to master them. It matters not what the problem is, it is the act of awareness that provides you with salvation.
In full awareness there is no judgment, no hope nor fear nor reactive emotion. It is the true “I” that is the observer, the eternal part of you where you experience wholeness and freedom. It is the true part of you that lives only in the present moment, devoid of fear for the future and regret or longing for the past. It is the part of you that exists beyond color, creed or gender, that understands these are the things you experience in this lifetime but that who you are is not those things.
Use your mind to be creative in whatever way is appropriate to your life, to engage in the world around you, to learn and discover. This is what the mind is for. But remember, who you are is not the content of your mind. Your body is a gift to be taken care of and your thinking mind is the conduit through which you do this, but they will cease to be at some point while the true you will continue.
It is here, the true Self, that you know who you are. Unlimited awareness is your basic nature that can never not Be.
